Simple Ideas for Better Organizing Your Home for 2024

December 13, 2021

It’s that time of year again. The new year is coming and with it comes all the resolutions to keep your home organized in 2024. Organizing your home will not only make it look cleaner but also help you stay on top of everything as well as improve your quality of life! Utah’s foremost builder, McArthur Homes, offers some tips and ideas on how to make or keep your home more organized in the new year.

What Should I Declutter in 2024?

When decluttering your home, you should start with the rooms that are used the most such as the living room and kitchen. Decluttering those common areas makes the rooms feel more spacious and comfortable for you and your guests.

Keep the Living Room Livable

Creating a space for you and your family to relax is the number one priority when decluttering. You can do this by getting rid of all unnecessary items, such as outdated electronics or furniture that have been broken over time. Organize these items in an area so they don’t clutter up your living room anymore! Another thing you can do is create storage areas for toys and other items that tend to be left out. This could include baskets or shelves that are easily accessible.

Organizing Your Kitchen

One of the busiest rooms in the house, your kitchen can quickly become cluttered and unorganized. Start by decluttering your countertops and cabinets. Get rid of anything you don’t use on a regular basis and organize what’s left into categories like pots and pans, dishes, silverware, etc. Install some shelves or hooks to hang utensils like spoons and whisks. Organize your dishes by putting similar items together, for example, all of your plates in one cabinet or drawer with bowls right next to them.

Organize Your Bathrooms

Your bathrooms are some of the messiest rooms in the house because you use them every day, but don’t often spend as much time cleaning them as you do in other rooms. Start by decluttering your countertops and cabinets just like you did in the kitchen. Again, organize what’s left into categories like toiletries, cosmetics, first-aid supplies, etc. Hang a shelf or two over your sink to store grooming tools and products. Install some shelves inside your cabinet to store extra towels and toilet paper rolls.

Organize Those Junk Drawers

There’s nothing wrong with having one assigned junk drawer that you go to every week and de-clutter, but if you have a junk drawer that is never used and junk is out there and never looked at again, it’s time to clear it out. Take a little bit of time to look through your drawers and see what you truly need, what you should throw out and what type of bins/storage pieces you’ll need. Start organizing what you’ll keep with a few plastic containers, boxes for underneath vanity storage and baskets with files labeled and saved.

Bedroom Organization

While you don’t need to declutter every single item in your bedroom, there are some things to look at. Rearrange your closets so you can see and access everything easily! Try hanging a shoe rack in the back of each closet or install shelves for folded items like sweaters and jeans. Organize your drawers by putting similar items together, for example, all of your socks in one drawer and all of your underwear in another. If you have a lot of clothes that don’t fit in your closet, you can donate things that you no longer wear or even consider investing in a storage unit.

Making your home more organized in 2024 doesn’t have to be a daunting task. With the help of McArthur Homes, you can get started with these easy tips to make organizing your home easier than ever! Organizing your home is one of the first steps to making it look and feel clean. Organized homes are happy homes!
